We’ve both spent our careers in the thick of mission-critical construction – projects where delays aren’t just inconvenient, they’re expensive. Really expensive. Whether it's data centers, pharma plants, or semiconductor fabs, there's one truth we see again and again: reactive construction workflows are holding teams back.
In our recent webinar, Stop Reacting, Start Delivering, we shared how teams are shifting from reactive to proactive using engineering-grade augmented reality (AR). Alongside our partner Rob Kane at InfraPartners, we walked through real-world case studies, practical workflows, and a few eye-opening results.
Here’s what we covered, and why it matters.
Delays Are the Norm. But They Don’t Have to Be
Matt: In 2025, we’re seeing explosive growth in data center and advanced manufacturing construction. Demand is up. Facility size is up. Complexity is way up. But what hasn’t changed for most teams is how they work. Delays from QA/QC issues, clashes, rework, and redesigns are still way too common.
We ran a live poll during the webinar – and the results speak for themselves:
- 55% of respondents said QA/QC issues delay almost every project
- 31% cited schedule pressure, design changes, trade coordination, and rework as top challenges
- Yet only 36% are using AR regularly.
Most teams know where the problems lie, but few have fully embraced the tools to fix them.
Stephen’s View from the Field: QA/QC in Real Time
Stephen: Our engineering teams are out on job sites every day across Europe, the US, and Asia. We see it all – misaligned installations, missed tolerances, design clashes, you name it. But with engineering grade AR, we’re changing that narrative.
One example we shared in the webinar: a data center project in Warsaw. Our engineer flagged a bracket installed 293mm out of tolerance, logged the issue in the headset, and synced it directly back to the office. The design team reviewed it, confirmed there were no clashes, and updated the model in real time. No rework. No delays. No costly scan or redesign.
That kind of real-time QA/QC simply isn’t possible with traditional workflows.
InfraPartners on Offsite Confidence with AR
Matt: Rob shared how InfraPartners is building 75-80% of their modular data centers offsite. They’re operating at massive scale – and they can’t afford mistakes. With AR, they validate every component before it leaves the factory and pre-verify site conditions before delivery.
Stephen: Rob even mentioned they’re cutting integration time by 25-40%, depending on the module complexity. For pop rooms and dense mechanical spaces, that’s a game-changer.
They’re also using the XYZ Platform to track earned value and performance-based payments in the factory, which has turned into a motivator for teams on the floor.
What We’ve Seen It Solve
Matt: From the factory floor to the field, AR is eliminating the ambiguity. Here’s what we’ve consistently seen:
- Clash detection before installation, not after
- Layout executed from holograms, not 2D drawings
- QA/QC aligned across trades, sites, and geographies
- Progress reporting based on live data, not guesswork.
Stephen: We’re seeing teams ditch the tape measures and total stations and switch to faster, more accurate layout from the model. We’ve supported installs with 400%+ layout efficiency gains, especially with repetitive bracketry or prefab modules.
Our Takeaways
Matt: If there’s one thing we hope people take from this – it’s that these workflows aren’t experimental anymore. This is how projects are being delivered today. And the results are measurable: faster installs, fewer disputes, and earlier revenue.
Stephen: Teams that use this tech tell us it’s not just about productivity – it’s about peace of mind. There’s a huge difference between hoping something’s in the right spot and knowing it is.
