Client Background

A leading global data center operator was nearing the final stretch of Phase 2 construction on its 48 MW hyperscale facility in Italy. With demanding timelines and high-stakes coordination, the client relied on its general contractor (GC) and partners to deliver precision at every stage of the build.

Challenge

In early June 2025, the installation of Hot Aisle Containment (HAC) units in the IDF-3 Room was unexpectedly delayed. While speaking with the client, XYZ Reality’s team learned of the holdup and suspected a hidden coordination issue. An on-site inspection was promptly initiated.

What they found confirmed the concern: subcontractors had begun installing cable containment brackets in a position that directly clashed with the intended placement of the HAC units. Left undetected, this misalignment would have triggered rework, delayed the HAC install, and potentially impacted downstream commissioning activities – at a highly sensitive phase of the project.

Incorrectly positioned cable containment brackets.

Solution

Leveraging XYZ Reality’s engineering grade augmented reality™ (AR) and real-time project insight, the issue was flagged immediately during a joint site walk with the client and GC. Using the Atom viewer, the GC Site Manager quickly visualized the conflict and validated the observation – right on the spot.

Installation was halted. The GC briefed workers on the required adjustments and realigned bracket placement before any further progress compounded the error.

Results

By catching the issue early, the team avoided a minimum of 20 days of potential rework – a major save in both time and resources. The seamless collaboration and immediate resolution also reinforced trust between XYZ Reality, the client, and the GC team.

“You could literally see the moment it clicked,” recalled the XYZ Reality site engineer, referencing the GC Site Manager’s impressed reaction when seeing the clash in 3D.

This success underscores the value of proactive issue detection and AR-powered field validation – hallmarks of XYZ Reality’s construction delivery platform.

Why was this discovery important?

In high-density data center environments, spatial precision is non-negotiable. The early identification of misaligned cable containment brackets prevented a direct clash with HAC infrastructure – an error that would have triggered extensive rework, coordination delays, and downstream schedule disruption.

This case highlights how proactive site inspections, combined with real-time visualization tools, can surface hidden risks before they become costly setbacks. By acting at the right moment, the team preserved schedule certainty, safeguarded quality, and kept critical systems installation on track.
