27 June 2025
Welcome back, data center folks – summer’s heating up, and so is the industry. June was a another busy month, with hyperscalers opening their wallets, new builds popping up globally, and the AI boom continuing to reshape our landscape. So, grab an iced coffee and let’s get into what mattered most this month.
Let's get straight into June's Data Center Rundown!
Vantage Pulls Off a European First
Vantage Data Centers just made financing history by landing the industry’s first euro-based asset-backed securitization. That’s €640 million in the bank to help expand their European portfolio – and it’s all about sustainable, long-term growth. Another big win for Vantage this year.
Amazon Doubles Down on US AI Infrastructure
Amazon is making major waves stateside with a
$10 billion investment in North Carolina to build out new data centers. The project, which includes a campus in Richland County, is expected to create 500 jobs and underscores how seriously Amazon is betting on AI. With AWS capacity in high demand, this move is all about staying ahead of the AI curve.
Equinix Expands in the Philippines
Equinix announced the completion of its acquisition of three data centers in Manila from Total Information Management. This move strengthens Equinix's presence in the Asia-Pacific region, supporting the Philippines' growing digital economy.
The Water Crisis and Data Centers: A Wake-Up Call
A sobering look at sustainability – Business Insider dropped an in-depth report showing that 40% of US data centers are in regions facing severe water stress. With AI cooling demands rising fast, this is a story that’s not going away.
Dell Wants AI Factories in Your Office
Dell's new pitch? Bring the AI infrastructure to you. Their "AI factories" are plug-and-play systems with everything you need – from servers to software – to get AI workloads running fast. Think enterprise AI on autopilot.
OpenAI Partners with Google Cloud for Data Center Capacity
In a surprising move, OpenAI is reportedly expanding its network of cloud providers by partnering with Google Cloud. This collaboration underscores Google's infrastructure and networking strengths, even amid tight supply conditions. Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner, but the AI firm has also teamed up with Oracle and CoreWeave to meet its growing infrastructure needs.
European Data Center Demand Hits Record High
This one technically went live in May, but it was after May’s edition went live, so I’m sharing anyway…
CBRE's latest research indicates that Europe's data center market is experiencing unprecedented growth. Take-up of colocation capacity is projected to reach 855MW in 2025, marking a 22% year-over-year increase and the fastest growth rate in four years. London and Frankfurt are leading the charge, accounting for nearly half of this demand. Despite challenges in sourcing power and land, the appetite for capacity continues to surge, driven by the needs of hyperscalers and AI providers.
And that’s a wrap on June! From financing firsts and international expansions to sustainability spotlights and surprise cloud alliances, it’s clear the data center space isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
As always, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for the next big developments. If you spotted something we missed or want to share insights from your corner of the industry, don’t be a stranger – drop us a message or tag us on LinkedIn.
